About the Job
The Group Leader assists the School Age Child Care Director/Site Director/Senior Group Leader in daily program operations. Responsibilities include planning, developing, and implementing all before and after school activities under the YMCA School Age Curriculum. The role involves oversight of program activities, communication with families, and ensuring all equipment and supplies are available.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement the program according to YMCA goals, policies, and the School Age Curriculum (e.g., Creative Curriculum).
- Carry out appropriate lesson plans effectively.
- Establish structure and routines, setting boundaries and behavior guidelines for children.
- Ensure children's safety at all times, including understanding and executing emergency procedures.
- Attend parent/child events as required.
- Communicate effectively with parents throughout the program year.
- Maintain an attractive and clean classroom environment.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or GED required; CDA must be obtained within 18 months of employment.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test.
- Clearance of criminal background checks and fingerprinting as per local jurisdiction requirements.
- Meet county/state licensing requirements.
- Ability to relate positively to parents, school staff, and children with a creative attitude.
Working Conditions
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
- Physically active to engage in games and sports with children.
- Ability to lift at least 35 pounds.
- Visual acuity to observe children effectively.
