  • Summary:

    The Yardman Laborer for the Asphalt Division performs a wide range of tasks from the very simple to the more demanding. To perform the job effectively, laborers must be familiar with the duties and with the materials, tools, and machinery they use. Must possess a valid drivers license. At times, exposure to the elements and extreme temperatures. Attention to safety and quality are critical. Work environment is dirty, mainly from dirt, asphalt, and oily surfaces. Teamwork and communication is imperative to the successful completion of assignments.

    Essential Functions:

  • Maintains work area in orderly and hazard-free condition in construction area according to instructions by the Foreman
  • Shovel and rake materials and clean equipment
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of traffic control devices
  • Operate various hand tools, pavement breakers, jack hammers, etc.
  • Performs daily maintenance and lubrication procedures as outlined by the company or according to manufacturer's specifications
  • Follow all safety procedures (OSHA)
  • Checks guards, safety devices, and warning signs to determine they are in proper position and in good working order
  • Complies with all Federal, State, and corporate policies
  • Attends all scheduled training sessions and safety meetings
  • Position Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years heavy highway construction experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to use various hand held tools, ability to respond quickly to safety demands and equipment malfunctions
  • Steady work history and attendance record
  • Strong focus on safety and quality in performing tasks
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate and work as a team
  • Ability to listen and follow directions
  • Excellent housekeeping and organizational skills
  • Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting 50 lbs.
  • Must pass drug screen and physical
