A quick summary about the XPression Designer & Programmer role: The XPression Designer & Programmer will be responsible for programming, operating and designing content for the Ross XPression & Tessera systems to help elevate the in-game presentation quality and fan experience for the Orlando Magic home games and events at Kia Center. What the XPression Designer & Programmer will do:
  • Ensure collaboration, creation, implementation and operation of graphics, animations, statistical information and CG effects for LED & digital signage for the Orlando Magic, Orlando Solar Bears and various Kia Center events within the Ross Video ecosystem, comprised of XPression Studio, Dashboard and Tessera.
  • Program, animate and design content for XPression Studio and Tessera systems.
  • Create customized Dashboard layouts as needed.
  • Create animated templates and graphics for use in live production environment.
  • Work to develop a best-in-class scoreboard production from multiple standpoints, including
    • fan engagement & entertainment
    • in-game stats offerings
    • innovative use of displays
    • overall game & event presentation
  • Responsible for quality control of all aspects of graphic and video production as they relate to the Ross Video ecosystem at Kia Center.
  • Work with multiple data sources to populate and display in-game stats & information.
  • Update and maintain team & player video highlights libraries on a regular basis for use in in-game production.
  • Implement file naming & delivery standards as well as file management structures to optimize XPression/Tessera systems.
  • Perform quality control checks for all content within the display control environment (e.g., switcher triggers, dashboard triggers, DataLinq parsing).
  • Responsible for fact-checking, research and visual consistency for projects touching XPression/Tessera environment. This includes sourcing images and footage from Getty & NBA Archives as necessary.
  • Provide incremental support to help program XPression elements for the Osceola Magic, the NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic.
  • Work with control room & Content Studio staff members (both full-time and game-night employees) to establish best practices for effective workflows.
  • All other duties as assigned.
What the XPression Designer & Programmer needs to have:
  • College degree requirement: 2-year degree in film or television production, Marketing, Communications or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years in motion graphics design, animation or programming strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in Ross XPression, Tessera, DataLinq, and Dashboard design/programming is required.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud experience required.
  • Knowledge of motion design and animation platforms required.
  • Candidates must possess strong graphic production skills and a complete hands-on working knowledge of video production formats.
  • Microsoft Office 365 products and other related computer skills required.
  • Knowledge of basketball (in particular, NBA) & live sports production required.
  • Knowledge of live production environments and video control room technology a plus.
  • Proficient with XML/live data feeds.
  • Knowledge of Visual Basic and/or JavaScript a plus.
  • Knowledge of Ross Piero considered a strong plus.
  • Working knowledge of standard production formats and transfer practices required.
  • Ability to work all Magic home games (43+ annually) plus a select number of non-Magic events, specifically the Orlando Solar Bears, Osceola Magic and a select number of non-sporting events. This includes the ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail required.
  • Must possess an exceptional attention to detail and a passion for creativity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on business writing skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects while working well under pressure and on deadline.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.
  • Strong team synergy skills and ability to work collaboratively with others whom you have no direct authority over.
  • Excellent ability to establish rapport with others and ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Must exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
