Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:Design and lead resident exercise classes and individual training consultations to safely meet their physical objectives. Incorporate exercise modifications into class activity to address multiple levels of physical ability.Encourage ongoing class participation and/or individual exercise by establishing effective relationships with residents, incorporating appropriate music, and securing necessary equipment to enhance the residents' exercise experience.Monitor class participants to ensure that exercises are performed in a safe and beneficial manner; respond quickly to any sign of distress exhibited by a resident while exercising.Assess a resident's physical status by reviewing doctors' orders, physical therapy records and making direct observations of the individual's capabilities; and orient/instruct residents, as well as team members in the use of exercises and equipment within the fitness center so that they may exercise independently.Understanding and implementing simple written and verbal instructions and performing basic mathematical computations.Working independently or as a member of a team, and the ability to work with limited supervision.Routinely working on multiple projects, under moderate amounts of pressure for results, with frequently changing priorities.Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies: Ability to design exercise class instruction in an entertaining way to promote ongoing class participation.Basic computer competency and ability to use and learn a variety of software programs, specifically Microsoft Office programs and fitness tracking software; ability to operate electronic audio-visual equipment.Ability to effectively interact with a diverse leadership team, team members, residents, and third-party associates, including vendors, providers, and visitors.Ability to effectively manage sensitive and confidential communications and information, while maintaining a high level of poise, tact, and diplomacy.Ability to successfully match exercise prescriptions to physical goals.Education and Experience:Minimum of 1 year of experience as a personal trainer, exercise/health & fitness instructor, or recreational therapist is required.Previous experience working with older adults and/or previous training in working with older adults is preferred.Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or other related health field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training is required.Personal Trainer or Group Training certification is required (National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited certification is preferred).CPR certification is required.Physical Requirements: An extensive amount of standing, walking, kneeling, and bending at the waist, with a moderate amount of sitting, and reaching above the head and shoulders.Ability to routinely lift and push up to 25 pounds.Frequent use of ordinary communication, including normal levels of hearing and vision.Ability to use a computer or other office equipment for an extensive period.Ability to work extended hours, as required.Other Duties as Needed: Provide resident fitness testing and new resident orientation programs. Collaborate with residents to generate individual physical goals and develop an exercise prescription (classes and/or individual exercises) and assist them in beginning their exercise program. Monitor their progress and revise goals and prescriptions as appropriate.Assist with educational programs (i.e., nutritional and well-being workshops) and wellness activities (i.e., events, contests, classes, etc.), as necessary.Assist with special events, as assigned, (i.e., Day of Caring, Alzheimer Walk, other fundraisers, etc.) to encourage participation by residents and team members. Develop themes and acquire promotional items (T-shirts, flyers, decorations, etc.) to support the events.Assist Wellness Specialist in assuring that program materials and equipment inventory is ordered and maintained to support the schedule of wellness activities.Arrange for periodic resident shopping trips for exercise clothing, or other recreational events, to include reservations and transportation.Track personal training time provided to residents to ensure that billing information is readily available.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the team member for this job.
