Job Summary
The Weekend Medical Laboratory Supervisor plays a crucial role in the Chemistry Laboratory, applying extensive knowledge in Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, and Special Chemistry. As a key resource for technologists, the supervisor ensures that all laboratory operations run efficiently under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all Laboratory and Hospital safety policies.
- Safely operate all department equipment per established procedures.
- Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot instrument failures, informing appropriate personnel of issues.
- Follow all quality control procedures and document any deviations appropriately.
- Maintain technical competency and seek clarification when needed.
- Utilize all necessary Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) functions effectively.
- Assist in maintaining sufficient inventory of reagents and testing supplies.
- Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, and staff development.
- Track all specimens on the pending log and communicate necessary actions to subsequent shifts.
- Prioritize tasks in response to workflow fluctuations.
- Write and revise department procedures in collaboration with the laboratory supervisor.
- Plan and follow up on various projects with foresight.
- Recognize and effectively analyze problems, communicating them to supervisory staff as needed.
- Manage supply inventory and submit purchase requests when required.
- Assist with Quality Control programs and evaluations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Comply with all relevant policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Medical Technology or physical, chemical, or biological sciences required.
- 2-4 years of clinical laboratory experience required.
- 2-4 years of hospital experience preferred.

- Knowledge of laboratory and quality control protocols.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining orderly records.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to enhance collaboration.
- Exhibit good laboratory techniques and adhere to safety practices.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic proficiency with lab tools and equipment.
Licenses and Certifications
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification from ASCP, AMT, or an equivalent body is required.
