Bennington College, a preeminent liberal arts college distinguished for its pioneering approaches to student learning and agency, seeks a Web Manager and Developer to join a newly-composed division of communications, marketing, admissions, and financial aid. The Web Manager and Developer will lead website management, enhancement, and user experience for the College, reporting to the Director of Enrollment and Marketing Analytics.

Responsibilities include updating and optimizing Bennington's website while supporting a variety of digital communications efforts. The Web Manager and Developer will collaborate closely across all College departments, coordinating with key staff, faculty, students, and alumni. The role will foster an extensive network of relationships within and beyond the college community. The Web Manager and Developer role is crucial to realizing Bennington's strategic digital communications and marketing plan. The position requires a keen eye, creative and persistent problem-solving, an accountable and collaborative disposition, and the desire to continually improve. Hybrid work arrangements are available for suitable candidates.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain and strengthen the Bennington College website by soliciting, reviewing, and publishing college-wide submissions.
  • Monitor and optimize web performance, making ongoing improvements to website UI/UX as well as underlying code.
  • Manage regular web content updates, alongside new and ongoing projects. Upload, store, and distribute other digital assets for the College, including videos, photos, and text.
  • Train and coach colleagues in other departments on web usage and style. Nurture the success of each Bennington program while shaping the collective offerings into a cohesive whole.
  • Assist in managing the Communications email account; serve as the first point of contact for website support and troubleshooting.
  • Serve as the project manager for multi-office communication efforts, including the Welcome Cycle, End of Term Announcements, Digital Coffee Hour, Journey to Bennington, etc.
  • Ideate and build digital strategy across the College, identifying ways to utilize and extend web-based communication tools.
  • Maintain an accurate calendar of College-wide communications, tracking submissions including news items, solicitations, and programmatic updates. Schedule and review content, including e-newsletters, biannual leadership letters, special announcements, and invitations.
  • Manage the community-wide email system to disseminate institutional messages to the on-campus community, including important procedures, timelines, templates, and training.
  • Assist with other communications projects and duties as required, including developing or editing copy, supporting campaigns and workflows, and consulting on end-user experience.
  • Supervise designated staff if/as assigned. Oversee and coordinate work schedules and assignments. Collaborate with other offices to manage the hiring/selection process and support departmental onboarding for new hires. Mentor and manage ongoing evaluation of staff, including performance evaluations.

This position requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, with a preference for background in website development, information systems, communications, digital strategy, or 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with SEO, SEM, and website analytics required. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for revision, editing, and proofreading.
  • Must excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to set priorities, adjust within an evolving landscape, and carry multiple synchronous projects to a successful conclusion.
  • Outstanding professional discretion, capable of managing sensitive or confidential information in an appropriate and timely manner. Able to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced computer skills required. Must have CMS management and web research experience. Ability to adapt to changing technology, utilizing new tools with speed and creativity. Preference for experience with some/all of the following: Drupal, HubSpot, Slate, and the Google Suite.
  • Must show exceptional attention to detail.
