Web Application Developer [Contract Length] 3.5 years [Location] Jamaica, NY [Work Setup] Hybrid - Primarily Onsite Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Web Application Developer to join the Revenue Fare Management Systems team. This position is primarily focused on internal web application development, with an increasing shift toward Django frameworks and a strong need for API integration expertise. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting legacy systems and contributing to the development of the New Fare Payment System, helping unify LIRR and MNR revenue platforms. Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain internal web applications using Python and Django
  • Build and integrate RESTful APIs for seamless data flow and system communication
  • Troubleshoot and support client workstation applications and internal tools
  • Collaborate in daily stand-ups, planning sessions, and code reviews
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and complete project delivery
  • Estimate development efforts and contribute to prioritization decisions
  • Participate in deployment planning and rollout execution
  • Build responsive and accessible front-end interfaces
  • Develop and modify templates within CMS and web frameworks
  • Conduct compatibility testing across browsers, platforms, and devices
  • Perform usability assessments and ensure compliance with accessibility standards
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in Python development
  • Proficiency in Django and REST API development
  • Strong command of SQL / Oracle PL/SQL
  • Solid front-end development skills: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX
  • Comfortable with Windows and Linux scripting (PowerShell, Bash)
  • Experience with Git for version control
  • Understanding of object-oriented design and web security best practices
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure
  • SEO coding best practices (a plus)
  • Java experience (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
