POSITION DETAIL: Position sunsets December 31, 2026. Potential new position in 2027, pending budget approval.
The Maintenance Worker is a regular, non-exempt position with a normal work schedule of 40 hours per week. The position is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between Teamsters Local 58 and the City of Ridgefield.
This is an entry level classification in the water maintenance and operations job family where basic tasks and assignments requiring little or no previous training or experience are performed. It is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I/II/III classifications because the work is designed to provide initial experience and training under direct supervision. This position is not required to participate in the on-call rotation.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Water Maintenance Worker works under the general supervision of the Utilities Field Supervisor and performs routine duties normally involving physical labor for the maintenance of City potable water supply, storage, and distribution systems. The position also works with field crew personnel and performs skilled work in construction, maintenance, and related service activities. The primary job tasks include but are not limited to:

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily outdoors. Work may likely expose the employee to inclement weather and safety hazards such as falling objects, heavy equipment, power tools, noise and vibration, dust and dirt, fumes and odors, and uneven or rough terrain. Frequent travel between sites is required, which exposes the employee to the hazards associated with travel by vehicle.
