JOB OVERVIEW:

Through a constructive and energetic style, guided by the objectives of the company, the Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the facility or multiple facilities have the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and ensure financial strength and operating efficiencies.

A Warehouse Operations Manager oversees and optimizes all aspects of warehouse functions to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations. Responsibilities include managing the movement, storage, and distribution of goods, supervising warehouse staff, implementing operational strategies, and ensuring compliance with company standards and regulations. This role is key in driving improvements in warehouse productivity, safety, and customer satisfaction. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage warehouse, facility, and transportation operations for inbound and outbound logistics, depending on the size of the distribution center.
  • Implement cost-effective control systems over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages, and salaries.
  • Oversee capital asset maintenance, control, and minimize operating expenses.
  • Maintain existing facilities and equipment; upgrade or adjust warehouse facilities and machinery as needed.
  • Develop, communicate, and execute growth strategies to meet and surpass sales, profitability, and business goals.
  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of all processes, providing timely and accurate operational reports.
  • Collaborate with management to develop systems, processes, and personnel plans supporting organizational growth.
  • Lead and motivate a high-performance management team; recruit, mentor, and retain staff.
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the warehouse.
  • Maintain productive relationships with vendors, suppliers, and partners.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance and safety standards are effectively implemented.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of warehouse facilities.
  • Ensure all equipment, including forklifts and trucks, are in safe operating condition.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, provide feedback, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Perform duties in accordance with HACCP and SQF policies, as appropriate.
  • Perform other relevant duties as required.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Education/Certifications: BS degree required.

    Experience: Minimum five years of related experience, including at least two years in a supervisory role.

    Knowledge: Strong understanding of inventory control, company operations, budgeting, and shipping requirements.

    Skills/Abilities: Excellent leadership, organization, problem-solving, communication skills, and proficiency with maintenance equipment and computer applications.

    Work Environment:

    Onsite role at a UNFI location; some travel may be required.

    Physical Demands:

    Most work performed in a temperature-controlled office; some physical activity including sitting, handling equipment, and reaching.
