For almost thirty years, the Heart Foundation has helped over 360,000 Australians start walking and stay walking. Walking for an average of 30 minutes or more a day can lower the risk of heart disease and stroke by 35% and Type 2 diabetes by 40%.

In this role, you will play a fundamental role in implementing the Heart Foundation Walking program in Western Australia, to get more Australians walking in accordance with the national program model.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and implementing a project plan to grow the number of Heart Foundation Walking groups and participants in Western Australia, with a focus on engaging harder-to-reach or higher-risk groups.
  • Developing regular reports on the Heart Foundation Walking program utilizing local data.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of national Heart Foundation Walking program projects.
  • Providing ongoing support to Local Coordinators, as well as supporting the recruitment and retention of volunteer Walk Organisers.
  • Facilitating local events and engagement activities.
  • Promoting the Active Australia Innovation Challenge and liaising with state and territory grant recipients.
  • Supporting relevant local advocacy, volunteering, and health professional engagement activity.
  • Undertaking other duties or responsibilities, as required.

    To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Vocational or tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in a health discipline and/or public health.
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation of health promotion programs, project planning, and management, with a focus on measurable results.
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised and demonstrated flexibility in workflow.
  • Awareness of the diverse population in Australia and the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged populations, including an understanding of the cultural and significant health impacts that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people face.
  • Proven communication skills, including the ability to write reports and speak confidently in a range of forums.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills and a track record of representing an organisation.
  • Ability to undertake intrastate travel.
