The VicePresident of Commercial Lending is responsible for providing strategicleadership and oversight of commercial and small business lending initiativesto drive loan volume growth, optimize the lending process, and enhanceChartway's competitive position. This role involves setting the strategicdirection, managing financial performance, overseeing risk management, andensuring operational efficiency within the commercial and small businesslending portfolio. The VP will focus on achieving sustainable growth whilemaintaining sound credit quality. Additionally, the VP will develop andimplement market-driven lending strategies to expand Chartway's presence incommercial lending. This position reports directly to the Chief LendingOfficer.Responsibleand Accountable for:StrategicLeadership & Market Growth

  • Develop and execute commercial lendingstrategies to increase lending volume and market share while maintainingstrong portfolio performance.
  • Analyze market trends, member needs, andcompetitive landscape to identify opportunities for product developmentand business expansion.
  • Maintain deep awareness of the economicand regulatory environment, assessing risks and opportunities to guidestrategic decision-making.
  • Develop strong relationships with keystakeholders, including business owners, industry associations, andgovernment entities.

LendingOperations & Process Optimization

  • Oversee all facets of commercial lendingoperations, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive process enhancements to improveunderwriting efficiency, credit decisions, and loan servicing.
  • Leverage technology to streamline thecommercial lending experience, including digital loan applications,automated decisioning, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Work closely with internal teams,including credit risk, legal, and finance, to ensure alignment andexecution of lending strategies.

Portfolio &Risk Management

  • Develop and enforce credit policies andunderwriting guidelines to ensure sound lending practices.
  • Monitor commercial loan portfolioperformance, including delinquency, charge-offs, and concentration risks,implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Lead portfolio risk assessment efforts,ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry bestpractices.
  • Oversee the review and approval processfor high-value or complex credit transactions.

FinancialPerformance & Business Development

  • Drive commercial loan production toachieve growth targets while ensuring a strong return on assets (ROA) andmaintaining credit quality.
  • Develop key financial metrics andreporting to track performance, identify trends, and make data-drivendecisions.
  • Identify cross-selling business financialservices opportunities to enhance member relationships and revenue growth.
  • Represent Chartway in the businesscommunity, fostering relationships that drive loan origination and brandawareness.

Team Leadership& Talent Development

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performingcommercial lending team to achieve business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning,collaboration, and innovation within the lending division.
  • Provide coaching and developmentopportunities for team members to enhance their skills and expertise incommercial lending.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop top talent tosupport Chartway's commercial lending growth strategy.

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities:

  • Collaborative and innovative leader with demonstrated ability to build and develop small business services that align with Chartway's mission and values.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on building, coaching, and developing a high-performing team to meet financial and strategic goals.
  • Proven ability to underwrite and approve commercial loans, including handling all facets of business credit administration and interpreting complex financial and legal documents.
  • Deep knowledge of small business member needs in deposits, lending, merchant services, and related business offerings.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk including underwriting, portfolio performance, and default mitigation.
  • Proven insight into business segments, with the ability to market and build strategic relationships with target industries and member groups.
  • Thorough knowledge of business products and services, including government lending programs (e.g., SBA).
  • Understands the technology and systems needed to build digitally centric processes and lead successful implementation and adoption.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels and departments of the organization.
  • Proficient in generating and reviewing Commercial Real Estate loan documentation using Finastra LaserPro, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations and credit union standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to inform decisions, identify trends, and solve complex challenges.

Educationand Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience: Minimum seven years of Commercial/Business lending experience with at least five years of experience developing and managing business assets. Management experience is required
