Zurich Canada is currently seeking a VP, Auto and Transportation. Reporting to the SVP, Head of Liability, you will lead the national accounts auto and transportation products underwriting team across Canada. This role involves building and nurturing relationships with distributors to support business retention and acquisition, offering solutions to address their insurance needs, and promoting a sales-oriented culture. You will oversee and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and pricing strategy, assisted by technical underwriters. Additionally, you will create action plans based on Zurich's key broker performance and market trends. The VP will also ensure portfolio profitability through sound class selection, active portfolio management, and the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards.

What you will do
  • Collaborate with peers from other Zurich business units to develop business plans that ensure both growth of customers and increased product density with existing clients.
  • Actively manage the portfolio of National Accounts auto and transportation products in Canada, including fronting arrangements and group captive agreements.
  • Manage delegated authority levels and handle referrals with the assistance of technical underwriters.
  • Demonstrate specialized knowledge and expertise in large fleet accounts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers to support business retention and acquisition; work with customers and brokers to determine their insurance needs and provide solutions.
  • Support the organization's sales culture.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards to produce profitable results.
  • Travel for business as required.
  • Work extended hours during peak periods, as necessary.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license, if required.
  • Be visible in the office as needed.
  • What you bring to the table

    Required:

    Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of experience in auto and transportation underwriting, market-facing roles, broker, carrier, or risk management within the commercial insurance industry.

    OR

    Bachelor's Degree with 20+ years of experience in claims, broking, or underwriting within the commercial insurance industry.

    AND

    At least 5 years of people management experience in auto and transportation insurance.

    • Advanced knowledge of lines of business
    • Strategic planning and execution experience
    • Strong team-building and organizational skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Experience managing complex portfolios
    • Technical knowledge of insurance operations and processes
    • Knowledge of risk selection and market trend analysis
    • Experience with Guidewire policy administration system
    • CIP Designation
