This is a full-time position, based out of our Conway Health and Resource Center in SW DC. The salary range for this position is $24.03 - $26.44 per hour and the offer amount is determined by the candidate's education, qualifications, and experience. Indeed provides its own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COH's range.Highlighted Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits and screens volunteers across all programs including updating online recruitment platforms and attending recruiting fairs
  • Schedules sufficient number of volunteers for volunteer opportunities (e.g. Fam-Club, Birthday & Winter Parties) at COH's two short-term family housing sites in Wards 6 & 8 (The Aya and The Triumph).
  • Works with the Youth Engagement Specialist (YES) to plan and implement engaging and age-appropriate activities for Fam-Club.
  • Supports team's storytelling for Stories of Hope and other communications by collecting photo releases and taking photos of residents. Connect Communications team with families who are interested in sharing their story.
  • Works with Volunteer Manager to develop content for monthly volunteer newsletter by creating at least one piece each month in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains communication with volunteers via phone, email, and/or mail to develop and maintain ongoing, long-term participation and strengthen involvement (i.e. for continued volunteer involvement as well as to convert to becoming donors).
  • Supports Development team with organizing and disseminating in-kind donations, as needed, including during the winter holiday season
  • Supports COH organization-wide and community events to ensure volunteer needs are met
Requirements
  • B.A./B.S. preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years of volunteer management experience preferred
  • Highly motivated and organized with strong communication skills; must be comfortable speaking in front of groups and be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally) and effectively for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, health care, or social service environment a plus
  • CPR & First Aid required
  • Commitment to volunteerism and providing meaningful volunteer experiences required
  • Familiarity with best practices in volunteer management, child development, youth development programming and management, positive communication skills & behavior management, trauma-informed care are required
  • Commitment to supporting families experiencing homelessness and historically under-resourced communities
  • Able to work both independently and with a team
  • Knowledge of computer systems, including internet and Microsoft Office required
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge and/or VolunteerHub, a plus
  • Ability to easily travel between sites as needed
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including four evenings/week and occasional weekends
  • Ability to travel between DC-based service locations as needed.
  • In relation to remote work versus on-site expectations, this position is classified as the following: Hybrid: Required to work four days/evenings on site with the option to work one day remote . Please note that remote work designations are subject to change or fluctuate at any point in time and the supervisor may require in person learning for a specific amount of time after hire
