Description
Position Summary: The Director of Youth and Family Programs is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and execution of high-quality youth and family programs at the YMCA. This role ensures that all programs align with the organization's mission, goals, and objectives, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and social development of participants. This position oversees enrichment programs, non-licensed camps, develops strategies to enhance family memberships, and provides programming for all youth ages 6 weeks to middle school. The Director of Youth and Family Programs also serves as a member of the Center Operations Leadership team.
Essential Functions:
- Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for youth and family programs that supports the overall mission and strategic direction of the YMCA.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to set annual goals and objectives for youth and family programs.
- Participate in the Center Operations Leadership team, contributing to the overall strategy and decision-making processes.
- Program Development and Management:
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a diverse range of youth and family programs, including but not limited to summer mini-camps, sports, arts, enrichment programs, and family engagement activities.
- Ensure programs meet the needs of the community and are accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive.
- Oversee the development and execution of specialty camps and enrichment programs, ensuring they provide unique, high-quality experiences for participants.
- Provide programming for all youth ages 6 weeks to middle school, ensuring a continuum of care and developmentally appropriate activities.
- Membership Growth Strategy:
- Develop and create a strategy around programs aimed at the overall growth of family memberships.
- Collaborate with the membership and marketing teams to design programs that attract and retain families.
- Staff Leadership and Development:
- Recruit, train, and supervise a team of program directors, coordinators, and other staff members.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages professional growth, collaboration, and a commitment to the YMCA's values.
- Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the budget for youth and family programs, ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and partnerships, to support program growth and development.
- Community Engagement and Partnership Building:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to enhance program offerings and support community needs.
- Represent the YMCA in community meetings, events, and forums, advocating for youth and family programs and the organization's mission.
- Program Evaluation and Quality Assurance:
- Establish and maintain a system for regular program evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all YMCA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
- Marketing and Communications:
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement effective marketing and communication strategies to promote youth and family programs.
- Serve as a spokesperson for youth and family programs, communicating the impact and success of these initiatives to various stakeholders.
- Other Duties:
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in youth and family program management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of youth development principles and best practices.
- Proven track record of successful program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Experience in budget management and financial planning.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and build strong community relationships.

Working Conditions:
- This position typically works in an office setting but may require travel to various program sites and community events.
