Position Summary
VMG is seeking a results-driven Vice President of Construction Project Management to oversee our growing team of Project Managers and ensure the successful delivery of complex mechanical construction projects. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Construction Operations, this executive role will shape VMG's project management strategy, foster team excellence, and drive operational efficiency across all projects.
This leader will play a pivotal role in strengthening client relationships, optimizing processes, and ensuring that every project—from preconstruction through closeout—is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the Project Management department.
- Drive the execution of commercial mechanical construction projects (HVAC, plumbing, process piping) with an emphasis on profitability, quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
- Oversee the full project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and schedule.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with high-value clients, general contractors, and strategic partners.
- Collaborate closely with estimating, engineering, field operations, and service divisions to deliver a coordinated approach.
- Establish, refine, and enforce project management processes, tools, and reporting systems.
- Conduct performance reviews, mentor PMs, and champion professional growth and succession planning.
- Identify operational gaps, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training of project management personnel.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical construction (HVAC/plumbing strongly preferred).
- 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing Project Managers and large-scale project portfolios.
- Proven track record of managing high-value, complex commercial projects to successful completion.
- Expertise in cost control, scheduling, procurement, and client relations.
- Exceptional leadership, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience in implementing enterprise-level project management systems and driving process improvement.
- Proficiency in Procore, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, and other construction technology platforms.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred; advanced degree a plus.
