Job Description

Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946 and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.Danville Community College is seeking applications for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services. Reporting directly to the President, this executive leadership role will oversee a broad range of functions essential to the College's operations. The ideal candidate will be a responsive, collaborative, and resourceful leader with a hands-on approach, understanding the importance of administrative services in supporting the College's academic, workforce, and student services missions. A commitment to operational excellence and student-centered practices is essential for success in this position.In addition to providing visionary leadership, the Vice President will work closely with fellow vice presidents and College leadership in a collaborative, team-oriented environment at all levels within a matrixed management environment. This role involves overseeing all aspects

of academics for the college as well as all student service areas.As the executive leader of Academics, the Vice President is responsible for developing, advancing, and ensuring the quality and vibrancy of Danville Community College's academic vision, educational programs, accreditation, faculty work, and improved learning outcomes. Consensus-building with faculty, staff, and leadership is crucial to this position. The Vice President is responsible for ensuring the marketing of programs, overseeing vision and strategies for enrollment and the development of new programs, and provides guidance and receives recommendations from DCC Faculty Steering Committee and other representatives regarding the planning, implementation, and review of academic programs, services, activities, and related matters.As the executive leader of Student Services, the Vice President will have oversight of all student services departments and programs. The position has both leadership and operational responsibility for Admissions, Registration, Records & Credentials, Testing Center, Financial Aid, Veteran Services, Student Conduct & Complaints, Advising, Disability Services, Student Leadership & Engagement, and TRIO . The VP partners with the President and the President's Cabinet, as well as the Executive Council, to align the College's strategic plan with policy development, and operational and instructional effectiveness, and student completion. The Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services is responsible for building an enrollment management and student affairs department that is student-focused with a high standard of customer service. Consensus-building with faculty and staff and leadership on issues important to students, such as obtaining meaningful work after graduation, is critical to the success of this position.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services has oversight of the following divisions of the college:

  • Student Services
  • Arts, Science, and Business
  • Career and Technical Education
  • Institutional Effectiveness and Research
  • Learning Resource Center and Distance Learning
  • TRIO and EOC
Job Duties:
  • Lead the shaping, maintenance, and expansion of the college's academic programming..
  • Assists and prepares accreditation and assessment reports for DCC and regional governing bodies, as well as works with VCCS and other accrediting or regulatory agencies as necessary to guarantee the College's compliance with accrediting standards.
  • Coordinates the development of the annual Academic and Student Affairs budgets and allocates approved operating budgets to units; ensures all spending is within the allocated budget.
  • Represents the College at state and national meetings via conferences, committees, commissions, and other activities.
  • Determine course offerings, design course schedules, and direct processes for curricular revision and expansion.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of the academic programs. Identifies, sets goals, and monitors progress toward student success metrics.
  • Implement and review academic policies of the institution.
  • Work with faculty to develop, document, and evaluate admissions standards, degree programs, and graduation requirements which are in accordance with the College's identity and mission.
  • Consult on employee relations issues in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Supervise the publication and regular revision of the course catalog, student handbook, academic calendar, course schedules, and all faculty handbooks.
  • Assign faculty with recruitment and advising. Develops and manages the Enrollment Management Plan.
  • Supervises and evaluates Academic and Student Affairs deans, directors, and other identified staff and makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and termination of divisional employees.
  • Provide leadership in course and programmatic design, instructional delivery and assessment activities.
  • Ensure area alignment with college strategic initiatives and facilitates the preparation of short- and long-term plans in support of college mission, vision and goals.
  • Oversee the development of marketing strategies and outreach processes leading to enrollment and programmatic recognition and growth.
  • Ensure division compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, accrediting commissions, licensing requirements, and with administrative regulations and policies as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with and supports the college President in management of day-to-day operations.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution (i.e., Ed.D., Ph.D.)

Additional Considerations
  • Five to seven years of higher education leadership experience.
  • Five to seven years of direct classroom instruction strongly preferred.
