Vice President of Compensation & Benefits will design, drive, implement and execute Breakthrough T1D's total rewards philosophy, strategy, and programming across the organization, specifically focused on compensation, employee benefits, and reward and recognition programs. Strong capabilities in executive compensation design and delivery are key. This leader will bring their expertise across the organizational spectrum to align how we reward employees, working collaboratively and creatively with leaders throughout the United States and around the world. Partnering with leaders across the enterprise to ensure we attract, retain, develop and grow extraordinary talent. Out-of-the-box thinking, strong business acumen, ability to partner with all levels within the organization, desire to be hands-on while simultaneously setting strategic direction, and sense of urgency are critical to the success of this leader. This role reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and sits on the HR Leadership Team. The position is on a hybrid work model based out of New York. Total Rewards & Compensation Strategy & Execution (50%)

  • Partner with Human Resources leadership to ensure that Breakthrough T1D's total rewards program aligns with the strategic goals of the organization, drives a high-performing and inclusive culture by rewarding and attracting top talent. Must be well-versed in US based compensation and benefits administration but also have a global eye to support our rapidly growing organization. In addition, strategic understanding of compensation strategy and plans related to venture capital structure to support the T1D Fund, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Breakthrough T1D.
  • Identify and evaluate external market changes and internal trends to inform strategic design; effectively benchmarking employee benefit and compensation practices/offerings, legislation and targeted industries to remain competitive and compliant in all geographies Breakthrough T1D operates in.
  • Review, evaluate, and execute the executive compensation programs (base, bonus, and long-term incentive solutions) by collaborating with Chief Human Resources Officer and with external executive compensation consultants to ensure structure is performance driven, market competitive, appropriately leveraged, legally compliant, accurately administered and effectively communicated.
  • Act as strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer and Chief Financial Officer as well as all senior leaders across the enterprise on compensation and benefits programs and trends.
  • Lead the HR Operations team through the annual year-end compensation process including the implementation and continuous administration of the Workday compensation system, providing support to the organization and Human Resource partners throughout the process.
  • Design and implement effective employee recognition programs that drive engagement, align with company culture, and promote retention. Manage relationships with third party recognition vendors.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess and improve programs focused on employee satisfaction, motivation and retention.
  • Advise and guide Chief Human Resources Officer and the Board's Talent & Compensation Committee on executive, incentive, and equity compensation philosophies, practices and guidelines.
Benefits Administration Program (40%) Manage benchmarking, data analysis, program development, and operational and administrative processes for Breakthrough T1D's benefits programs including health & welfare benefits, disability, leave administration and retirement offerings.
  • Partner with external Benefits administrators to stay abreast of the market. Make recommendations to supplement and update benefit offerings and policies to stay competitive and provide services aligned with employee needs.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for changes, including new vendors, plan design, and funding.
  • Oversee annual open enrollment program. Develop and implement enrollment campaigns and initiatives.
  • Manage Benefits Manager who oversees Breakthrough T1D's leave administration such as FMLA, family leave, and other leave policies to ensure leaves are documented, communicated, and administered consistently with company policies and with compassion and empathy.
  • Drive usage of EAP, mental health, and other behavioral programs as part of overall employee wellness.
  • Communicate with strategic third-party services to negotiate benefits plans and resolve benefit-related issues.
  • Partner with external partners to ensure compliance and competitiveness of the retirement program offerings.
Data & Analytics (10%)
  • Responsible for analytics and business intelligence support to the organization through the use of technology. This team develops and executes data strategies and partners with the organization to drive results.
  • Develop metrics and analytics to assess the effectiveness of total rewards programs and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular reports and presentations to senior leadership on the status and impact of compensation and benefits strategies.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resources, Business required; A Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CCP, CEBS, SHRM-SCP) is highly preferred.
  • At least 15 years of leadership experience in designing, implementing and providing direction to domestic focused compensation, benefits and rewards functions required; global experience preferred.
  • 10+ years in a strategic leadership position with a proven history of successful interaction and influence with all levels of stakeholders, including Compensation Committees, Boards of Directors and other senior executives.
  • 10+ years of experience managing complex retirement plans (i.e. 403(b),457 plans, deferred compensation), health and welfare, and paid leave benefits strategy development, implementation, communication, operations and compliance in a multi-segment business.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of incentive and recognition-based compensation, benefits and other rewards programs.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities from multiple stakeholders and create collaborative strategies that achieve business goals in a cost-effective manner.
  • Thrive in changing environments and can think outside traditional rewards structures and policies to create plans that best suit the needs of the organization and retain, incentivize, and reward employees.
  • Experience leading, managing, and mentoring high performing HR Operations, and Benefits Administration Teams.
  • Effective leadership skills not only leading a team of professionals but also in handling organizational complexities to include working collaboratively across organizational boundaries.
