Home National Vice-President addresses the students & faculty of NIT, Hamirpur
The Vice-president of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, today urged corporate leaders and business tycoons to prioritize and support Indian institutions, recognizing their immense intellectual potential. Highlighting India's youth and their unparalleled potential, Shri Dhankhar emphasized that research and development are primarily driven by corporations in developed countries.
I use this platform to send a message to corporate leaders, business tycoons, and industry stakeholders:
Please support and nurture institutions!
Research and development are mainly driven by corporations in the developed world.
Addressing the gathering at NIT, Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, Shri Dhankhar highlighted India's demographic advantage, noting that 65 percent of the population is under 35 years of age. He cited historical examples of nations that experienced significant progress during demographic dividends in the 1980s and 90s, declaring it as “India's century,” and adding, “India will perform for itself and for the world.”
The theme today is “Role of Youth in Viksit Bharat @2047,” and the event is held in ‘Dev Bhoomi,' Land of Gods. This is an ideal setting to focus on this theme.
I stand before the future leaders who will play a critical role in realizing our dreams.
The Vice-President praised the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, calling it a historic step towards national unity. He stated that with the removal of Article 370, the idea that a group of people controlled the destiny of Jammu and Kashmir has ended. He referred to the framers of the Constitution, who considered Article 370 a temporary arrangement, and noted that the prolonged adversity caused by it has been addressed.
Our Constitution was affected by Article 370 and 35A, which were meant to be temporary but were endured as permanent by many.
Their removal was a historic step, leading to positive change. For example, hosting G20 meetings in J&K has significantly boosted tourism in the region.
Quoting Bismarck, Shri Dhankhar urged the youth to look beyond geographical boundaries. Reflecting on India's economic journey from being part of the Fragile Five in 2012-13, he highlighted that transparency and reforms have elevated India to the 5th largest economy globally. He expressed confidence that India will be the third largest economy by 2030.
India has made significant progress, overcoming many challenges, and is already the 5th largest economy, on its way to a USD 5 trillion economy. By 2030, it is projected that Germany and Japan will lag behind India economically.
Sharing his personal journey, the Vice-President emphasized education as a vital transformational tool that promotes equality and opportunity. He encouraged students to have a burning desire to make a difference and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.
Shri Dhankhar praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading the G20 summit effectively. He highlighted the inclusion of the African Union into G20 as a sign of India's leadership in the Global South. He stressed that India must remain vocal on issues affecting global stability, peace, and harmony.
He also commended the government's focus on women's empowerment, noting women's impactful contributions across various fields, from space to military aviation and global business.
He shared his personal experience of being invited to an NCC program in Delhi, where 39% of cadets were girls. He mentioned Chandrayaan-3 and the ‘Rocket Woman' as symbols of women's power and achievement.
On the occasion, dignitaries including Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, Governor of Himachal Pradesh; Shri Anurag Thakur, Union Minister; Rajesh Dharmani, Minister of Himachal Pradesh; and Prof. Hiralal Murlidhar Suryawanshi, Director of NIT Hamirpur, were present.
