Purpose of Position: Maintain a smooth and orderly flow of patients through shelter veterinary services while providing exceptional customer service. Assist the shelter veterinary services team in providing medical care and treatment for animals. Responsibilities
- Perform clinic reception duties including handling incoming phone calls, greeting and assisting patrons, scheduling appointments, and filling prescription orders.
- Counsel patrons through end-of-life decisions. This includes making referrals for low-cost veterinary clinics when appropriate, cultivating conversations around behavior and medical concerns, and reviewing cremation and memorial options.
- Set a positive tone for each visit by greeting patrons and pets in a professional and friendly manner via professional and timely phone or in person communications.
- Ensure patron check-in and discharge processes are smooth and efficient.
- Manage shelter calendar by accurately scheduling, confirming, and canceling appointments.
- Accurately enter patron payments and create end-of-day reports.
- Prepare, update , and maintain patient and client records.
- Manage front desk along with lobby cleaning and maintenance.
- Contribute to and lead initiatives to improve processes and procedures.
- Provide training to other employees that assist in front desk shifts.
- Gather basic veterinary history of patient and relay accurate information to support staff.
- Provide general information and answer questions about programs and services, educating patrons on basic shelter and veterinary information and procedures.
- Perform administrative tasks such as data entry to update patron and animal records.
- Work directly with and provide oversight to volunteers. Train as needed.
- Assist technicians and veterinarians in the performance of medical and surgical procedures.
- Administer medications as directed to shelter animals.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain surgical and medical areas and supplies.
- Handle and move animals prior to and following medical procedures, restraining animals as needed.
- Assist in the induction and preparation of animals for surgery.
- Recover animals from surgery and teach other staff, volunteers, and interns on how to perform the task.
- Identify, assist with and be able to perform sample diagnostic testing as directed.
- Perform euthanasia and related tasks.

Compensation: Starting at $20.00 - $20.90 per hour (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity) Work Conditions and Physical Requirements Handle and restrain animals of various sizes, weights, and temperaments. Subject to animal bites or scratches. Work performed in high noise level areas. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Exposure to radiation in association with performing radiology procedures. Physical efforts require constant bending, stooping, standing, climbing stairs, and walking. Repetitive motion associated with medical and surgical care. Frequent lifting of animals and objects up to 40 pounds with reasonable accommodation. - Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Work Experience: Previous customer service experience and/or professional experience in animal welfare/working with animals

- Experience working in a veterinary clinic or similar environment
- Veterinary Assistant Certification
- Experience with Chameleon and EZY Vet veterinary software
- Bilingual fluency speaking both English and Spanish
