DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will have the opportunity to support and serve veterans by guiding them through the process of filing for benefits. You will work closely with them to complete and submit their application forms, ensuring that all legal requirements are met. As a representative and advocate for veterans, you will communicate with medical professionals to gather necessary evidence and provide them with the required forms. Your role will also involve conducting interviews with claimants to gather information and facilitate the development of their claims. - Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days out of 10 days in a pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Jonestown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Veterans Services Specialist, DMVA (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Five years of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs; or
- One year of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs and a bachelor's degree in human services, business administration, public administration, or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This job requires you to possess valid accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a veterans service officer or eligibility for accreditation within one year from the date of employment.
Additional Requirement:
- You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Knowledge of interviewing techniques used to gather information for public assistance programs and their eligibility requirements
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
