ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:Established in 1970, Boley Centers, Inc., is a private, non-profit organization serving individuals with mental disabilities, individuals and families who are homeless, Veterans and youth in Pinellas County. Boley Centers, Inc., a nationally recognized and accredited behavioral health care agency, has an opening for a part-time Veteran Support Specialist.PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the recovery team with assessing strengths and needs of veterans in the program by directly observing/teaching skills.
- Assist with recovery plans that seek to restore a veteran's functioning in key roles in life such as work, family and community.
- Builds working relationship and maintains regular contact
- Communicates the veteran's needs to the team. Reports, as appropriate, all unusual events, activities and incidents to supervisor or appropriate team member.
- Assists veteran to access resources in the community such as recreational activities, work, medical, dental, etc.
- Mentors veterans in role recovery activities such as symptom management, relapse prevention, stress reduction and work readiness.
- Directly transports and teaches public transportation to veterans to support independence.
- Participates in agency-wide meetings as needed and attends required meetings.
- Complies with Compliance Plan and standards of conduct and reports any noncompliance to the appropriate official.
- Attends all required training and performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School Diploma/GED equivalency required.Minimum of one year of responsible work experience, preferably involving interactions with veterans/military.Knowledge of recovery model, counseling techniques, verbal crisis intervention and mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders preferred.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Good skills and demonstrated abilities in communication - verbal and/or written, interpersonal relations, teaching/instructing, counseling, coaching, training, basic math and language, record keeping, evaluating, organizing work, planning, crisis intervention, and such others that are usually and customarily considered necessary for satisfactory completion of essential duties.PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:Must comply with all work rules including, but not limited to, attendance. Must not present a direct threat to the safety or health of the worker or others.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Work primarily indoors, however, some exposure to outdoors when traveling between facilities or other locations. May be exposed to such environmental conditions as fumes, odors, dust, variable temperatures; exposure to a potential hazard may occur when handling household cleaning chemicals, physical hazard may exist when dealing with unstable or difficult client/tenant.Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
