Vehicle Repairman needed at the Large Power Systems Division located in Lafayette, IN. In this role, you will perform a variety of functions and be responsible to mechanically and electrically troubleshoot and repair various types of vehicles, including bicycles to 50k ton fork trucks. This includes rail car mover, spotter trucks, fork trucks, mobile cranes, man lifts, trailers, etc.

Job duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Examples of equipment to be repaired: Caterpillar, Raymond, Sroka, and Rico.
  • Possess the ability to troubleshoot and repair AC and DC servos.
  • Must be able to communicate with fork trucks via computer.
  • Applicant must be able to read and understand vehicle prints/schematics.
  • Applicant must possess strong electrical skills and the ability to operate basic tools including but not limited to diagnosing diodes, capacitors, and electrical circuits.
  • Applicant must have documented experience in either Zapi, GE, and or Raymond controls.
  • Applicant must have hydraulics troubleshooting experience for cylinders, valves, and flow controls.
  • Applicant must have tire press experience.
  • Candidate should have some diesel troubleshooting and repair experience, heavy equipment experience, and be able to do basic computer operations in Excel and web-based applications.
  • Applicant must be willing to work overtime opportunities to support production demands.

Basic qualifications:

  • 6+ years of vehicle repair experience and/or an Associate's Degree from an accredited Technical School with four years of experience.
  • This solicitation is not for a vehicle repair apprenticeship program.
  • Applicants must possess extensive experience in the mechanical and electrical repair of various types of vehicles.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Skilled and experienced with preventative and predictive maintenance practices and technology.
  • Metal fabrication skills.
  • Familiar with multimeter usage and the ability to read electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Ability to communicate and build strong relationships with internal/external customers/stakeholders.
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

Physical requirements:

  • Candidates for all positions must have the ability to work in a fast pace, medium to heavy duty assembly, technical environment.
  • Work may involve frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and standing on concrete for 8+ hours.
  • All positions also require the ability to lift 40 pounds and withstand frequent repetitive movement of hands with a variety of tooling.
  • Must be able to work in heights and confined spaces.

Additional information:

  • Location of this position is in Lafayette, IN.
  • Shift: 1st (7:00am 3:00pm)

  • 40-hour work weeks with potential for overtime.
  • 18 days / 144 hours of paid personal time off (PTO) - prorated based upon start date.

Summary pay range: $32.40 - $41.20. Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
