Backed by experienced investment and insurance leaders, including a CEO from a major Fortune 500 Life/Annuity carrier, it is focused on delivering innovative financial solutions that help individuals retire with confidence and security.As the carrier continues to build out its team, their Chief Actuary is looking to hire a Valuation and Appointed Actuary to lead the valuation function. This is a #2 role in the org chart and a good opportunity for someone looking to have ownership in scaling a carrier to $1b+, build out a team of direct reports, and have a direct impact on the company's growth strategy.ResponsibilitiesThe Valuation and Appointed Actuary – Annuities will lead the valuation of insurance liabilities for MYGA and Fixed Indexed Annuity products, playing a key role in supporting financial reporting and capital management across statutory, GAAP, and/or IFRS frameworks.Responsibilities Include Reserve Calculations, Assumption Setting, Financial Modeling, And Ensuring Regulatory Compliance. The Ideal Candidate Will Bring Extensive Technical Expertise In Annuity Reserving Frameworks Such As AG33/35, VM-22, GAAP, And IFRS 17, As Well As Strong Communication Skills And a Collaborative, Solution-oriented Approach. More Details Below:Valuation and Reserving

• Calculate reserves for annuity portfolio, including multi-year guaranteed and fixed-indexed annuities with embedded guarantees.
• Deliver routine reporting packages (monthly, quarterly, annual) aligned with regulatory and accounting frameworks such as statutory, GAAP, or IFRS.
• Perform actuarial assessments to evaluate reserve sufficiency and liability adequacy.
• Prepare actuarial documentation and sign-off materials, including those required by regulators (e.g., SAO)

Reporting

• Support compliance efforts with valuation frameworks such as VM-22, C-3 Phase II, and principle-based reserving (PBR).
• Contribute to the production of financial statement exhibits and insurance reporting deliverables across statutory, GAAP, and IFRS bases.
• Act as a liaison to regulatory bodies for actuarial submissions and ensure alignment with evolving rules.
• Handle regulatory submissions, certifications, and recurring actuarial disclosures.

Model Management

• Refine and maintain projection and liability models.
• Integrate updated methodologies, including stochastic frameworks and reinsurance structures, into modeling architecture.
• Maintain model documentation, validation routines, and internal controls in line with governance protocols.

Assumption Governance & Experience Monitoring

• Conduct experience analyses across relevant drivers (e.g., lapse behavior, longevity, rider usage, expenses) within annuity blocks.
• Propose assumption changes and coordinate with pricing, capital, and risk teams to promote consistency in modeling inputs.

Partnership Across Business Functions

• Collaborate with teams across Finance, Investments, Risk, Reinsurance, and Capital to ensure consistent forecasts and valuation inputs.
• Provide liability projections and scenario analyses to support ALM and hedging strategies.
• Engage with auditors and examiners by supporting documentation requests and walkthroughs.

Efficiency & Tech-Enabled Process Enhancement

• Leverage tools like SQL, Python, or Excel automation to enhance the accuracy and speed of actuarial processes.
• Identify and implement refinements to streamline workflows and improve process oversight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, as well as 4 to 8+ years of actuarial experience, with a strong focus on annuity valuation
• Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) required; Fellowship (FSA) preferred, ideally on an annuity/reserving track
• In-depth knowledge of MYGAs, FIAs, and/or lifetime income riders is a plus
• Familiarity with U.S. statutory, GAAP, and preferably IFRS 17 reporting frameworks
• Experience with principle-based reserving methodologies such as VM-22 and exposure to asset-liability management (ALM), hedge modeling, reinsurance, and economic capital is a strong advantage
