Job Details:JOB SUMMARY:Under general supervision, be responsible for assisting with various maintenance and repair tasks related to water infrastructure. Duties include assisting with meter replacements, pipe repairs, AMI system maintenance, flow tests, leak investigations, and fire hydrant replacements. The technician will also assist with in-place meter maintenance and basic service repairs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Performs all steps and processes in replacing water equipment or conducting repairs, including but not limited to:
- Meters
- Pipes
- Automatic Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
- Operate a tremble unit to connect to command link.
- Performs in-place meter maintenance including but not limited to:
- Resetting counter
- Resetting GPS link
- Auditing communications Link
- Performs flow tests, such as Static Flow and Restriction testing.
- Performs field testing for meter accuracy.
- Performs basic service repairs for the service lines for approximately 150,000 meters through Arlington.
- Replacing water meters of ¾ to 10 lines.
- Performs investigation of leaks, including but not limited to:
- Understanding the difference between public and private property and right of way.
- Understanding the process in handling the different issues between public and private services.
- Performing pressure checks.
- Procedures for determining a loss of water.
- Performs replacement of fire hydrants, including but not limited to:
- Digging up the hydrants to the breakaway.
- Use of a breakaway replacement kit.
- Aged out fire hydrant replacement.
- Determine and use the appropriate PPE for all work performed.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:- Respond promptly and professionally to requests from other departments as directed by supervisory team.
- Performs other duties from field ops teams including the Meter teams and Capital Improvement Teams.
- Be proactive in learning the processes, procedures, tools, and operations of water utility maintenance and repair.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: - Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
- Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
- Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
- Skill with organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies.
- Ability to work independently under general instructions.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier.
- Ability to prioritize deadlines and tasks.
- Ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly.
- Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish unit objectives.
- Ability to understand mathematical calculations involving fractions, percentages, and decimals.
- Ability to work within a set schedule.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions including but not limited to: Extreme heat, freezing temperatures, rain, or other inclement weather conditions.
Qualifying Education and Experience: - A High School diploma or GED is required.
- One year experience in utility construction and/or maintenance
- Possession or ability to obtain a Texas Class A CDL with 6 months of employment
