The work includes monitoring and adjusting well operations, keeping records of well operation, SCADA, and pump operation, and making sure that the well pumps, motors, and chemical feeders are functioning correctly. The flow of water should be maintained properly by making necessary adjustments. Other related work may also be required. This job is done under the regular supervision of the Senior Groundwater Well Operator and Field Operations Manager. Essential Functions Essential Functions: - Operating and maintaining water well equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements. - Keeping records and files up-to-date and preparing monthly operating reports. - Collecting water samples from wells and distribution systems for laboratory analysis and reporting in compliance with State and Federal regulations. - Performing on-site laboratory tests of water to measure pH, chlorine residual, PO4, and iron at the well sites. - Adjusting chemicals as necessary to maintain proper water quality per State and Federal regulations. - Calibrating instrumentation to ensure readings are accurately transmitted to the SCADA system. - Assisting the Senior Groundwater Well Operator with the repair and maintenance of instrumentation equipment at the well sites. - Monitoring water tank levels in the SCADA system and making well operation and/or flow rate changes to meet system demands. - Conducting periodic checks of well equipment, including chemical feed pumps and well pumps. - Maintaining chemical feed systems and recording chemical inventory, including ordering, receiving, transferring, etc. - Performing diagnostic, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance on all equipment used in well operations. - Conducting system flushing as needed. - Installing, maintaining, and repairing water and sewer lines and appurtenances on an as-needed basis. - Maintaining all assigned vehicles and equipment and keeping them clean and presentable to the public. - Delivering exceptional, courteous, and efficient customer service to all Pender County customers and employees. - Being subject to On-Call rotation. - Performing related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education & Experience The following requirements are needed for the position: comprehensive knowledge of groundwater well operation principles, practices, equipment, and methods, as well as a general knowledge of chemicals applied to water treatment. The ability to adjust water and chemical feed pumps, check the operation of equipment, detect defects, take accurate readings, keep routine records, and make arithmetical computations is also required. Additionally, the candidate must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Education and Experience: The minimum qualifications for the position are a high school diploma or GED and considerable experience in operating a North Carolina groundwater well. Physical Requirements This job involves regularly exerting up to 10 pounds of force, frequently exerting up to 25 pounds of force, and occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force. It requires speaking and hearing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and performing repetitive motions. It also involves standing, walking, sitting, climbing, or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing, or pulling, and lifting. This work requires close, distance, and peripheral vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus, perceive depth and color, and see at night. Vocal communication is necessary for expressing or exchanging ideas utilizing spoken words, and hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken levels. In addition, this job requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visually inspecting small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities. The work environment involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions and frequent exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. Occasionally, it may require working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to vibration, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens while wearing specialized personal protective equipment. The work is generally in a loud noise location. Special Requirements: - Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina. - Must possess a certification as a North Carolina C-Well Operator or the ability to obtain within 18 months. - Should possess a certification as a North Carolina C-Distribution Operator within 18 months of employment or have equivalent experience. - Preferably, possess NCDOT Flagger certification or can obtain it within 12 months of employment. - Preferably, possess First Aid/CPR/AED certification or can obtain it within 12 months of employment.
