SUMMARY
Overall responsibility for managing and operating the utility systems for a manufacturer in the North Richmond, Virginia area. This includes boilers, steam turbines, filtered water & wastewater treatment plants, and landfills. The role aims to provide reliable, effective, low-cost utility systems/support to the mill's papermaking operations, supporting quality products and services through continuous improvement in a safe, reliable, and team-oriented manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead efforts to improve the effectiveness of energy and utility systems across the mill.
- Develop strategies and plans to reduce energy consumption and implement energy-efficient technologies.
- Monitor and analyze energy usage, identifying areas for improvement.
- Educate team members on energy-saving practices.
- Manage training and coaching systems for department personnel.
- Negotiate contracts and collaborate with contractors and energy suppliers.
- Stay current with energy legislation and regulations.
- Research and recommend new technologies and renewable energy sources.
- Work with cross-functional teams on energy efficiency projects.
- Analyze data to identify trends in energy usage.
- Ensure policies and procedures promote the safe operation of boilers, water, waste treatment, and landfills.
- Maintain compliance with environmental regulations for all utility operations.
- Communicate operational status of utility systems to mill management.
- Collaborate with Operations to improve reliability and reduce costs of utilities.
- Plan and oversee preventive maintenance programs.
- Coordinate with Procurement on utility-related contracts.
- Develop safety programs aligned with mill standards.
- Implement projects to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency of operations.
- Provide management with information on energy usage and costs.
- Guide the development and startup of utility-related projects.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years of experience in energy or facility management, environmental services, engineering, or related fields, with a focus on resource efficiency.
- Experience managing energy consumption and costs across various facility types, with data analysis skills.
- Experience with budgeting, procurement, contracts, and financing, including grants.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with leadership experience.
- Relevant certifications such as CEM, CEP, BOC, LEED AP, or similar.
- Bachelor's, master's, or advanced degree in engineering, environmental science, resource management, or related fields.
- Experience with aerobic treatment systems, with a preference for anaerobic treatment experience.
