The position supervises a staff of 19 and oversees a satellite office in Wentworth. The Independent Living Program serves Caswell, Alamance, Rockingham, Orange, Chatham, and Person Counties. Requires the ability to lead by example including Comprehensive understanding of the field of rehabilitation counseling and demonstrated excellence in service delivery, thorough knowledge of casework policy and procedures, demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, ability to inspire others to work together towards shared goals. In addition, requires the ability to mentor, coach and teach in a supportive climate as well as knowledge of and ability to tactfully utilize confrontation techniques as necessary. Requires understanding of professional ethics and demonstrated application in supervisory experiences. Requires a diverse background in the field of rehabilitation including working cooperatively with advocacy groups, an array of community resources and serving a diverse population of consumers. Job responsibilities include the following:
  • Professional supervisory and managerial work in organizing and directing delivery of Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living services to individuals with disabilities.
  • Directs the daily activities of the staff to ensure the most effective and efficient service delivery
  • Serves as area manager of the Division's service delivery program, serving the Burlington Unit Office & Wentworth satellite office
  • Provides leadership to meet agency mission and goals within the context of its stated value
  • Provides administrative, clinical, and case management supervision including training and technical assistance, personnel administration, and evaluation and planning
  • Designs and implements action plans to develop personnel and programs
  • Works cooperatively with a third-party school program, multiple community rehabilitation programs, community partners and agencies, and businesses
  • Ensures that all aspects of the Unit's work is in compliance with federal regulations, state laws, and DHHS and DVR policies.

Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, or a closely related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in a rehabilitation service program or closely related area including one year of supervisory experience; OR Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and three years of experience in a rehabilitation service program or closely related area including one year of supervisory experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
