POSITION TITLE:
Unit Coordinator
REPORTS TO (TITLE):
Chief Nursing Officer
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The Unit Coordinator is responsible for clerical functions of the nursing unit. The person in this position serves as a resource for patients, physicians, and staff who may approach the nursing station. A critical function of this position is to coordinate the flow of information and activities supporting the delivery of safe, quality patient care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain complete and accurate medical records for patients, including all forms labeled, in the correct chart and section of the chart.
- Schedule logistical needs for patients, including medical tests, appointments, and transportation.
- Complete legal reports and submit to relevant agencies as required, such as gun prohibition forms and rights denial reports.
- Serve as a point of contact for inquiries; direct inquiries appropriately for timely resolution.
- Monitor and update the legal status board to track required documentation for patients on legal hold.
- Enter ordered patient lab work in the lab book; collect results promptly and forward reports to licensed staff for review and action.
- Perform clerical duties related to updating and organizing information on nursing units.
- Participate in activities that promote professional growth and development.
- Uphold the organization's ethics and customer service standards.
- Perform related duties as requested.
- Organize files, correspondence, records, and follow up on pending matters.
Requirements
Position Requirements:
Knowledge and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current CPI certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Current BLS certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
- One year experience in a clerical support role, preferably in an inpatient hospital or similar environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Experience in roles requiring independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in healthcare, especially inpatient psychiatric settings, preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Willingness to interact with persons from diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, expanding organization.
Physical Requirements:
While performing duties, frequently required to:
- Use office equipment, input and retrieve information from a computer, and perform repetitive actions.
- Communicate effectively in person or via telephone.
- Follow instructions and perform complex mental and arithmetic functions.
- See details at close range.
- Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Reach in various directions.
- Sit or stand for extended periods and move around the work area.
- Lift up to 20 pounds.

Pay Range: $21.00 - $28.24
