Position OverviewUnited Health Services (UHS) is seeking a Unit Assistant to join our dedicated healthcare team and support the daily operations of a patient care unit. In this vital role, you will assist with non-clinical tasks such as answering phones, greeting visitors, organizing supplies, and supporting nursing staff to ensure a smooth and efficient environment. This position is designed to prepare you to enter the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training class, with the goal of becoming a certified CNA.As a Unit Assistant, you will work closely with healthcare professionals and play a key part in improving the overall patient experience. Upon successful completion of the CNA certification and passing the state exam, you will be eligible for an appropriate wage increase.   • Assists visitors, families, patients, physicians, and other United Health Services (UHS) staff by answering questions, delivering messages, and providing information within the scope of the position
  • Measures and records intake and output; collects specimens including routine and clean catch, 24-hour urine, stool, and sputum
  • Answers call bells and provides assistance as needed within the scope of the position
  • Changes bed linens as needed and makes both occupied and unoccupied beds
  • Assists patients with AM/PM care, oral hygiene, simple skin care, and dressing
  • Practices good body mechanics; ensures proper patient positioning with pillows and other supportive measures; uses safety equipment correctly
  • Assists patients with meal trays and nourishment; feeds patients when necessary, completes menus, and provides fresh water
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Position QualificationsMinimum Required:
  • Graduation from High School or equivalent
