Job Description:Our client, a reinsurance company, is seeking an Underwriting Manager. This individual contributor will ensure theappropriate application of the underwriting discipline in evaluating public entity risk associated with a large, multi-line reinsurance captive program.This involves acceptability and pricing of coverage and ensuring sound decision-making throughout the underwriting cycle. This role is hybrid in North Carolina.Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and underwrite reinsurance for workers' compensation, property, liability risks and other lines as required.
  • Evaluate financials, legal documentsand other relevant information to make informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with members and brokers to understand their requirements.
  • Provide guidance on coverage interpretation, policy and endorsement provisions, and underwriting acceptability.
  • Conduct underwriting analyses related to key business functions, metricsand process improvement.
  • Review contracts and policies to ensure compliance with insurance coverage requirements and recommend changes to certificates of limits, and terms.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of reinsurance contracts.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop and evaluate ceded and assumed insurance/reinsurance contract wording.
  • Issue policies and endorsements.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of reinsurance programs.
  • Assess performance metrics, identify areas for improvementand implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to optimize processes.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with members, reinsurersand partners.
  • Act as a point of contact for inquiries and escalations.
  • Attend board meetings, member meetings and training sessions.
  • Build relationships with existing and prospective members to advance the organization's mission.
  • Oversee reinsurance and underwriting team operations.
  • Provide training and education on reinsurance and underwriting topics.
  • Foster a collaborative,efficient work environment.
  • Participate in and lead key projects affecting underwriting and related departments.
  • Create and improveworkflows and quality reviews to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Professional designations such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Associate in Commercial Underwriting, Associate in Risk Management, Certified Insurance Counselor orCertified Risk Manager (preferred)
  • 7+ years of property and casualty and/or workers' compensation underwriting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience underwritingpublic entity pools and their associated exposures and coverages (preferred)
  • Proven experience in reinsurance underwriting
  • Understanding of rating methodology forworkers' compensation, property, and liability insurance
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners
Pay Range:The anticipated pay range for this position is $100K - $125K annually.We understand that salary is an important factor in a job search, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
