We strive to be the trusted partner in creating a connected future, driven by honesty and integrity, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to customer satisfaction.Job Summary: An Underground Foreman / Construction Supervisor is a working foreman responsible for providing field supervision over crews involved in the installation, maintenance, & repair of underground fiber utility lines, pedestals, vaults, drop access points, & related equipment. This position is also responsible for performing related duties as required. Distinguishing Features: Work involves moderate physical exertion, heavy lifting, and exposure to inclement weather. The hazardous conditions of working with heavy machinery and underground utilities are a critical factor of this job. The Underground Foreman is distinguished from the locator / operator by having responsibility for supervising personnel & overseeing equipment, materials, & recordkeeping duties. This position provides general supervision to the crews in the field & reviews work through reports, meetings, & the evaluation of completed work projects.Responsibilities:
- Inspects the work of UG Locator, UG Operator, & laborers to ensure compliance with prescribed operating & safety standards.
- Use the safety procedures and equipment associated with underground utility hazards.
- Establishes & maintains utility line clearances with proposed bore path.
- Supervises installs pedestals & vaults; Supervises installs drop access points
- Ability to operate directional drill, mini excavator, & fiber installation equipment. Maintain & keep record of hand tools to construct & maintain underground plant.
- Checks material, equipment, and manpower requirements, and conducts pre-job meetings and job safety analysis with crew.
- Checks time sheets, material stores orders, work order face sheets, construction sketches, and other reports for procedural accuracy.
- Coordination & implementation of Traffic Control Plans; including traffic cones & barricades as applicable.
- Detects natural gas leaks when working on underground cable.
- Ability to move objects (pedestals, vaults, jumping jacks , etc.) weighing up 100+ pounds, using a cart or other aid to assist with the lifting.
- Works in a variety of weather conditions; in small, cramped spaces; and on and near utility lines and equipment.
- Provides lead supervision over workers involved in maintain, installing, & repairing underground fiber utility lines & related equipment.
- Reads and interprets construction plans and schematics (related to the installation of electrical power distribution lines).
- Prioritizes work assignments based on SOW & deadlines.
- Comprehends and makes inferences from written material.
- Analyzes bore logs, troubleshoots mechanical issues with equipment, identifies services / maintenance needed for machinery or related equipment.
- Determines the equipment, tools, materials, and manpower needed to complete assigned projects.
- Learns job-related material through on-the-job training and in classroom settings.
Qualifications: All positions require participation in the federally compliant FMSCA drug and alcohol testing program. This includes both pre-employment and ongoing random testing.
- Graduation from high school or GED.
- Considerable (5 - 10 years) experience as an UG Foreman / Construction Supervisor engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber utility lines, heavy machinery, or related equipment.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365
- Ability to call in locates on CO811; using the Web Ticket Entry online.
