Position Summary: Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a skilled and dedicated Ultrasound Technologist, registered with ARDMS in Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN), to join our esteemed partner medical facility in Fortuna, CA. This full-time, day shift position involves performing a variety of clinical diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures according to established department standards. Working under the direction of departmental leadership and in collaboration with radiologists, the Ultrasound Technologist will also serve as a customer service representative to patients and their families, actively participate in quality control and organizational improvement activities, and act as a clinical/technical resource for colleagues. - Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations, with a primary focus on Abdominal and OB/GYN studies, for patients across the lifespan (infant, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric) as ordered by physicians.
- Operate ultrasound equipment proficiently, selecting appropriate transducers and settings to optimize image quality.
- Prepare patients for procedures, explain processes clearly, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the examination.
- Accurately identify and record anatomical structures, physiological data, and any observed abnormalities.
- Provide preliminary findings and technical impressions to the interpreting radiologist.
- Utilize PACS and EMR systems for image archival, retrieval, and patient record documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of ultrasound equipment and examination rooms.
- Adhere to all departmental protocols, safety standards, infection control procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Serve as a clinical and technical resource and mentor for less experienced sonographers in the department.
- Participate actively in quality control, quality assurance, and departmental improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the on-call schedule as required to provide emergent ultrasound coverage.
- Perform related clerical duties, assist with patient transport when necessary, and manage supplies.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Graduate of a program in diagnostic medical sonography approved by a recognized accreditation body (e.g., CAAHEP - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, formerly CAHEA of AMA). Equivalent education/experience or completed equivalent training (e.g., self-study, on-the-job training) resulting in ARDMS eligibility may be considered if meeting ARDMS pathway requirements.
- Certification & Registration:
- Current and active National Certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with registries in Abdomen (AB) AND Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) upon hire.
- Current National Provider BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
- General:
- Strong knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, and principles of ultrasound physics.
- Excellent patient care and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) or more years of experience as a hospital-based Ultrasound Technologist performing Abdominal and OB/GYN exams.
- Additional ARDMS registries (e.g., Vascular Technology - RVT, Breast - BR, Pediatric Sonography - PS).
- Experience with specific ultrasound equipment brands or EMR/PACS systems used at the facility (details available during screening).
