Job Description
Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment in the application of non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves for diagnosis of disease.
Responsibilities
- Prepares patient for examination
- Positions patient on examination table for optimum testing procedure and conditions; explains procedure in easy-to-understand terms to relieve patient of pre-testing anxiety; sets up equipment to administer the particular procedure in a timely fashion
- Performs ultrasound procedures; recognizes the significance of all structures visualized on the oscilloscope and differentiates artifacts from normal or pathological processes; ensures ordered views and images have been obtained using approved techniques; determines the need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions
- Obtains pertinent radiological and diagnostic exam reports for physician correlation with the ultrasound scan; consults with referring radiologist regarding patient history and appropriate ultrasonic procedure; correlates clinical history to ensure appropriate procedure is performed
- Monitors patient condition; performs direct observation during the examination; recognizes and reports changes in patient condition to the physician
- Maintains records and logs exams performed; documents slice locations and labels studies; ensures proper documentation of real-time studies
- Performs minor repairs and calibration checks; trouble-shoots equipment as needed; reports major problems to ensure prompt resolution
- Maintains control of inventory and purchases of supplies for the assigned area; checks purchase requisitions; reviews stock levels and utilization of supplies
- Performs related duties as required
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- Graduate of an approved program in Echocardiography/Ultrasound with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physics and diagnostic ultrasound; familiarity with pertinent medical/surgical disease, required
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer certification, required
- Equivalent work experience documented by institutional referral with a minimum of 200 cases in echocardiography and other modalities
- General Ultrasound Experience, preferred
Compensation and Notices
Base pay range: $65.00/hr - $65.00/hr
