TRIO Administrative Assistant

Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs. Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable individual to provide part-time office management support for the TRIO Student Support Services program. The ideal candidate for this position must demonstrate an ability to work with students who are first-generation, income-eligible, and/or students with disabilities.

As the first line of contact for students and visitors of the CVCC SSS/TRIO office, the individual will be expected to demonstrate excellent customer service and comprehensive knowledge of CVCC policy, practices, offerings, and services. Primary responsibilities include: managing participant information including hard copy and online files; managing and serving as point-of-contact for student data management system, Blumen; assisting Director with budget management and business office and Shared Services tasks; organizing and updating SSS/TRIO Policies and Procedures Handbook; coordinating logistics for TRIO events; assisting the Director with preparing the Annual Performance Report for the U.S. Department of Education as well as other required reports; maintaining the TRIO lab; supervising student workers; directing students to additional resources; and promoting the mission of CVCC. This position is restricted and contingent upon grant funding.

The individual will be expected to exercise good judgment and be relied upon to make appropriate decisions and problem-solve independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, handle virtual and in-person communication, and experience managing multiple tasks.
  • Experience that demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part a team. Understanding and ability to maintain confidentiality is vital.

Additional Considerations:

  • Associate's degree in business or related field, experience in a higher education setting.
