Summary

Under limited supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in coordinating and representing the County in transportation projects on tribal lands; performs related work as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

  • Represents the county in transportation issues on the Navajo, Hopi, and White Mountain Apache Reservations.
  • Represents the county in transportation issues with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and Navajo Division of Transportation (Navajo DOT).
  • Informs the general public on Tribal Transportation Policy.
  • Responds to questions about roadway maintenance, construction and related county procedures.
  • Coordinates transportation projects with outside agencies such as Navajo DOT and BIA.
  • Works with the public, other agencies and legislative representatives to further County interests.
  • Prepares presentations for use by the Department Director, staff and Board of Supervisors.
  • Ensures that all road projects that have been approved by the Board of Supervisors are on time and within budget and provide the greatest value for the money spent.
  • Ensures all permitting is in full compliance with Navajo Nation, Federal, State and County requirements.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of engineering contract administration language and methodology.
  • Knowledge in road maintenance and road construction
  • Knowledge of suppliers to contact for services and products of transportation engineering projects.
  • Knowledgeable in Native American culture.
  • Skill in developing positive relationships with tribal agencies and other organizations.
  • Skill in preparing public presentations.
  • Skill in coordinating projects.
  • Skill in project management for coordinating public impact, work crews, contractors, utilities and inspectors.
  • Skill in paying excellent attention to detail
  • Skill in problem solving
  • Skill in effectively communicating verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in organization and time management
  • Skills in computer literacy
Desirable Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D; Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Logistics or closely related field preferred; Prior experience as a Transport Coordinator or similar role; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; AND a valid Driver's License.
