Job Description: Trial Preparation Assistant Level II - Youth Justice Bureau

To support this mission, BXDA seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Trial Preparation Assistant Level II in the Youth Justice Bureau.
Job Responsibilities:
Communicate with and acquire documents from agencies such as NYPD, ACS, Department of Education, OCME, hospitals, and others. Compile, analyze, redact, and reproduce case documents for discovery and case preparation. Draft legal documents under supervision, including Removal Orders, Motion Responses, Legal Memoranda, Search Warrants, Subpoenas, Takeout Orders, Orders to Produce, and discovery sharing documents. Serve Takeout Orders and Orders to Produce on relevant facilities. Assist in preparing hearing/trial exhibits. Locate and retrieve property maintained by NYPD. Perform legal research. Notify police personnel and civilians to appear when necessary. Consult with court clerks to obtain Certificates of Disposition and Family Court history, and draft Grand Jury Subpoenas Duces Tecum. Engage in witness contact and communication. Obtain and evaluate records, including social media and cell site information. Secure, listen to, and transcribe phone calls from facilities. Perform related duties such as drafting correspondence, updating tracking systems, record keeping, and document preparation. Travel to various locations and agencies as needed. Provide duplication of digital recordings related to surveillance or defendant statements. Assist ADAs in court by observing, updating, and supporting hearings/trials. Participate in trainings and staff meetings. Perform other related duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree preferred; high school diploma with four years of relevant work experience also acceptable.
- Minimum of 2 years as a Trial Preparation Assistant Level I or comparable paralegal experience.
- Valid NYS drivers license with at least 2 years of driving experience, maintained throughout employment.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduation or equivalent plus three years of community work or related activities; or
- Equivalent education and/or experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills, proficiency in MS Office.
- Discretion working with confidential and minors' information.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, meet deadlines.
- Interest or experience in youth justice and familiarity with juvenile justice system preferred.
