Position Summary:

The Committee Chair for the Finance and Audit Committee is responsible for overseeing the financial management and auditing functions of AT Last. This role involves working closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and external auditors to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance in all financial matters. The Chair will lead efforts to monitor the organization's financial health, manage financial risks, and oversee the audit process to ensure fiscal responsibility.

The functions of the committee are designed to collectively contribute to promoting financial integrity, accountability, and sustainability within the organization. The specifics of the committee's functions may vary over time based on the current and projected level of sophistication of AT LAST.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight, Planning, and Strategy:

  • Reviewing and providing input on the organization's financial strategies, corporate negotiations, budgeting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Reviewing and providing oversight of the organization's financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Selecting and overseeing the work of the external auditors to ensure a thorough and independent audit of the organization's financial statements, ensuring transparent and accurate financial reporting.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of the organization's internal control systems to safeguard assets.
  • Regularly reviewing and updating financial policies.

Financial Risk Identification and Management:

  • Identifying and assessing financial and operational risks faced by the organization, and implementing strategies to manage and mitigate those risks.
  • Overseeing financial aspects of cybersecurity and data privacy to protect financial information and assets from potential breaches.
  • Overseeing the organization's adherence to ethical standards and legal requirements in financial matters.
  • Establishing mechanisms for employees or stakeholders to report concerns related to financial improprieties, and ensuring appropriate investigation and resolution.
  • Where applicable, overseeing insurance coverage to mitigate financial risks.

Evaluation of Executive Compensation:

  • Where applicable, reviewing and approving executive compensation structures.

Committee Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead regular Finance and Audit Committee meetings, setting agendas, guiding discussions, and ensuring that committee members are engaged and informed.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to committee members, helping them understand financial issues and contribute effectively to the committee's work.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement team to align financial planning with fundraising efforts and major projects.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to the Board of Directors, including quarterly and annual reports.
  • Communicate financial matters clearly and effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders, including board members, donors, and community partners.
  • Work with the Treasurer and Executive Director to prepare for financial discussions at board meetings.
  • Support the Advancement team in managing grant funding and ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions.
  • Assist with the creation of financial reports and budgets for grant applications and donor proposals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Public Administration, Health science, Sports Medicine or a related field.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience serving on a nonprofit board or finance committee.
  • CPA, CFA, or equivalent financial certification.
  • Background in athletic training, sports medicine, or a related healthcare field.
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally within a nonprofit, healthcare, or community-focused organization.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for health equity, particularly related to sports medicine and underserved communities.
  • Experience working with underserved and underrepresented communities.

Knowledge of:

  • Experience managing programs and teams, with the ability to delegate effectively and inspire collaboration.
  • Ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community members, healthcare professionals, and donors.
  • Commitment to AT Last's mission of improving health equity through innovative programs.
  • Strong background in finance, accounting, or a related field, with experience in nonprofit financial management preferred.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting practices and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting, audits, and budget management.

Relationships:

  • Lead a Finance & Audit team that you will autonomously develop utilizing our standardized nominating & development framework.
  • Works closely with program directors, financial staff, and other members of the executive leadership team.
  • Collaborates with external stakeholders, including funders, community partners, and consultants.

Salary/Benefits : At this time this is a non-paid role, but will likely change as our non profit evolves and secures funding.
