Job Title: Radiation Therapist Profession: Radiation Therapist Specialty: Not specified Duration: 13 Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 1 years License: Registered Radiology Technologist Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: High School Diploma/GED Graduated from an AMA approved school of Radiation Therapy Technology Description: Administers individualized radiation therapy treatments to patients. Verifies treatment parameters and maintains necessary data. Evaluates patients daily. Evaluates and refers patients based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of records, and clinical data. With physician or RN approval, evaluates patient response and intervenes in a timely manner to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Formulates, assesses, and maintains the schedule for daily radiation treatment patients. Delivers prescribed planned course of radiation therapy to patients, including but not limited to side effects, number of fractions, doses, and planned follow-up care. Maintains quality of portal verification on each patient according to department standards. Assists in tumor localization and dosimetry procedures. Performs simulation and simple dosimetry as required by the unit. Implements patient plan of care and observes outcomes in accordance with unit standards. Teaches in accordance with patient and family learning styles. Engages patient and family to foster commitment to comply with the plan of care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement a holistic, individualized plan of care. Maintains the environment of care including Quality Assurance tests on a treatment machine and simulator, room preparation, and supplies. Communicates and works with cancer patients and their families, dealing with all aspects of difficult care, including but not limited to, nutrition, pastoral care, psychosocial, end of life, and family dynamics, and refers appropriately. Proficient in use of EMR and patient data management systems used in the radiation oncology department and manual records to accurately input changes, record treatments, and patient data. Documents ongoing status, treatments, and patient responses in a timely manner. Serves as a patient advocate. Anticipates the needs of physicians, staff, patients, and families. Effectively uses time, personnel, equipment, and supplies to provide high-quality, cost-effective delivery of patient care. Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census, and staffing through priority setting and flexibility. Acts as a professional role model of all staff, demonstrating ethical, legal, professional therapy processes. Maintains high skill level through ongoing education and meeting attendance. Participates in weekly chart rounds as scheduled and contributes needed information. Participates in holiday and weekend callbacks as requested. Complies with department policy and procedures.
