Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and their families. This role involves assessing patient needs, identifying urgent care priorities, and collaboratively providing direct care while applying appropriate interventions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial assessments of patients during triage, prioritizing care based on established standards.
• Utilize observational skills and patient interviews to assess critical needs across all age groups.
• Document necessary health history and events leading to the emergency situation, while addressing psychosocial needs.
• Prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, making appropriate referrals for post-emergency care.
• Educate patients and families on post-care instructions, ensuring understanding of key points through structured learning sessions.
• Maintain open communication with patients and families, keeping them informed throughout their emergency care experience.
• Collaborate with team members to foster a supportive environment focused on optimal patient outcomes.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS certifications required.
• New York State RN licensure required.
• Minimum of one year of acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse, preferably in the Emergency Department.
