Cannot approve scheduled weekends off without coverage found unless previously specified within the scheduled days off. Blocked scheduling must be previously agreed upon. Will be trained for charge nurse responsibility. There is a possibility of floating to a similar unit within the facility. Uniform policy for Registered Nurses is navy blue scrubs. We have a 25-bed acute inpatient psychiatry unit. We staff a minimum of 5 staff for 18-25 patients and 4 staff for 11-17 patients. Staff includes 3 licensed personnel and up to 2 other staff, which can be a mix of licensed personnel or mental health assistants. One Registered Nurse works in a charge nurse role, one as an admission nurse overseeing all admissions, and another nurse handles medications for all patients during their shift. Registered Nurses are trained in all three roles. We also have float positions available. Mental health assistants also take patient assignments similar to nurses. All staff positions take a patient load and can lead patient groups, conduct rounds, and check vital signs. The patient population includes acute psychosis presentations such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and suicidal or homicidal tendencies, as well as dual diagnosis cases. For emergent medical issues with patients, call for emergency assistance and send to the nearest emergency department. We do not offer seclusion, and restraints are a last resort when all other de-escalation techniques have failed. Nursing and clinical staff handle all restraints. Security personnel are available for backup during crises, such as patient escalation.
