Pay Information $2,346 per week About The Position Job Title: RN Psych Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatric Nursing Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 07:00 AM - 03:30 PM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 1 Year License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS Certified Must-Have: - Must be willing to work holidays and every other weekend. - Must be trained to charge nurse responsibilities. Description: Job description is located in the document library. Schedule includes five 8-hour shifts, 07:00 AM to 03:30 PM, unless previously agreed upon. Blocked scheduling must be previously agreed upon. There is a possibility of floating to a similar unit. Uniform is navy blue scrubs for registered nurses. We are a 25-bed acute inpatient psychiatry unit. Staffing includes at least five staff members for 18-25 patients, comprising three licensed staff and two additional staff members. When patient counts drop to 11-17, we staff at least four staff members with three licensed professionals. One RN assumes the charge nurse role, one RN oversees all admissions for that shift, and another nurse manages medications for all patients during their shift. Registered nurses are trained in all three positions available. There are also two float positions for Mental Health Assistants (MHAs). MHAs perform rounds, take vitals, distribute meals, and assist with patient care. All staff positions take patient assignments and can conduct patient groups, rounding, and vital sign checks. The patient-to-staff ratio can be up to 5:1 but is often lower. Our patient population includes acute psychosis presentations such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal tendencies, homicidal tendencies, and dual diagnosis. In the event of an emergency medical issue, emergency services should be contacted. We do not offer seclusion, and restraints are a last resort when all other de-escalation techniques have failed. Nursing and clinical staff manage all restraints on the unit, with security staff available for backup during crises.
