Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Duration: 12 weeks Shift: 10-hour Days Hours per Shift: 0700-1700 or 0730-1730 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid Nursing License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: RN must pass the Basic Dysrhythmia test with a score of 83% or higher before signing the contract. Candidates will have three attempts to pass. Description: The position requires floating between campuses as needed. Candidates should not have been employed by any related facility in the past year. Candidates who were PRN through outside firms will be considered. Call requirements are approximately 10-12 days a month, with a 30-minute response time. The unit operates with both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery areas. Current staffing includes 7 PACU beds and 8 Stepdown beds, typically using 5 for Stepdown. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 for Phase 1 and 1:1 for pediatrics. Phase 2 has a different staffing ratio. The electronic medical record system utilized is MEDHOST. There is a charge nurse on duty, but no nurse aides assigned. Weekend coverage includes a requirement of 1 full weekend call per month. Holidays require availability for call as needed. Scrub color is navy blue, which is not provided by the facility. Common procedures include cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repairs, lumpectomy, mastectomy, colectomy, hysterectomy, T&A, BMT, MSDL, thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, bunionectomy, and occasional orthopedic cases. Most ICU patients return directly to ICU but sometimes may come to PACU. Candidates should be prepared to answer questions regarding prior PACU experience, pediatric PACU experience, and willingness to float to other areas. The hospital can cancel shifts in accordance with the policy. This is a position in an acute care setting. Weekends and holidays are a requirement for call coverage.
