Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse to provide specialized care for patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures. This role requires a clinician skilled in airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and pain management in a fast-paced, Level I trauma center environment. The ideal candidate will be adept at rapid patient assessment and intervention during the critical immediate postoperative period.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent PACU experience.
  • Technical Skills: Epic electronic medical record system experience is REQUIRED.
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS are typically required for this specialty.
  • Travel Policy: No local candidates within the facility's defined ineligible counties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients immediately following surgical procedures and anesthesia administration.
  • Perform frequent assessments of airway, respiratory, circulatory, and neurological status during emergence from anesthesia.
  • Manage complex pain control regimens, including PCA pumps and regional anesthesia blocks.
  • Monitor and manage postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and other common recovery complications.
  • Administer medications and IV fluids as ordered to maintain hemodynamic stability.
  • Provide thorough hand-off reports and safely transition patients to inpatient units or discharge.
  • Collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Unit & Patient Population Details

  • Patient Population: Post-operative patients of all ages recovering from a wide variety of surgical procedures, including general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, trauma, and cardiovascular surgery.
  • Clinical Focus: Airway management, hemodynamic stabilization, pain control, nausea management, and prevention of postoperative complications.
  • Care Environment: Level I Trauma Center with high-volume surgical services and complex patient cases.
  • Typical Procedures: Care for patients emerging from general anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), and regional anesthesia.
  • Technology: Advanced cardiac and respiratory monitoring, ventilatory support equipment, and various pain management modalities.
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs required
