Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Med/Surg Specialty: Acute Med/Surg Duration: 26 weeks Shift: Full time, 3x12s (7p-7a / 7a-7p) Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: One (1) year experience serving in Med/Surg environment as a Registered Nurse License: Licensed as a Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: NYS RN Licensure Required Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. The RN assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The Med/Surg RN develops specialized skill in the area of cardiac care, including telemetry monitoring. The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist the patient and family in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. He/She promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment. The RN applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care by assessing patient and family needs through active listening and social perceptiveness. The RN analyzes data obtained through direct observation and assessment, technology, or health team communication. The RN creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the scope of the health problems identified. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and health care team members, the RN sets goals and monitors patient progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition and reprioritizes needs. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and influence care delivery. The RN engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifies strengths and areas for professional development, and takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills. The RN uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches to problems. The RN demonstrates skill in the application of nursing interventions, including medication administration. The RN motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home. The RN assesses patient and family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding. The RN seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information. The RN asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process. The RN provides tools and information to assist the patient and family after discharge. The RN documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education. The RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to promote the best possible patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. The RN complies with infection prevention strategies and maintains competencies required to care for the specific population in the area assigned. The RN reports potential safety risks and inappropriate/questionable practices. The RN promotes leadership awareness and fosters positive change. The RN conducts rounds per protocol and uses tools and equipment needed to keep the patient and family informed, engaged, and safe. Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patient and family.
