The role is focused on caring for patients recovering from surgical procedures. Candidates must be comfortable working in an environment that may be affected by hurricanes. All employees may be assigned to an emergency team during adverse weather conditions. The nursing unit typically handles a diverse patient population with complex medical needs. Experience with specific surgical procedures is preferred, including pancreatectomy, colectomy, and bariatric surgery. Candidates should be familiar with the use of various medical equipment related to post-operative care. Interdisciplinary support is available from physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Candidates must be prepared to work weekends and adjust schedules as needed. The unit maintains a daily patient census of approximately 24. Additional responsibilities may include providing wound care and managing surgical drains. Modified rotations may be available for candidates willing to commit to weekend shifts.
