This role involves caring for patients undergoing various surgical procedures. Surgeries may include complex total joints, spine fusions, foot and ankle procedures, and other related surgeries. Patient age groups include adults and geriatrics, with some adolescents under specific conditions. The nurse will manage patients with a ratio of 1 RN to 5 patients. Key responsibilities include cardiac telemetry monitoring and understanding rhythm basics. Skills in accessing ports, blood product administration, and managing cardiac drips are essential. Experience with special equipment such as IV, PCA, PCEA, Capnography, and wound vac is important. The unit utilizes communication tools like white boards, bedside shift reports, and secure text messaging. Interdisciplinary support includes teams for IV, physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. Candidates must be comfortable with floating within medical-surgical specialties as needed.
