Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: LDRP Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Valid Nursing License Required Certifications: BLS, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Ability to read and interpret fetal strips, critical thinking, previous travel experience Description: This position involves working in a labor and delivery environment. The unit has a total of 15 beds, with 7 designated for labor and delivery and 8 for postpartum care. There is one operating room on the unit for cesarean sections. The unit averages approximately 58 births per month. The nurse-to-patient ratio follows AWHONN guidelines, with 1:1 care for specific drips and 1:3 couplet care. Common patient diagnoses include obstetric and neonatal conditions, hypertension, and gestational diabetes. RNs are required to titrate specific drips, including Pitocin, insulin, and magnesium. There is a charge nurse on each shift who takes patient assignments. Certified Nursing Assistants are available on the unit to assist with various tasks. An OB or Neonatologist is not in-house 24/7, and anesthesia is also not in-house continuously. Respiratory therapy equipment is available, but RNs are primarily troubleshooting, not performing advanced procedures. Telecommunication monitors are utilized, and RNs are responsible for reading their own strips. The unit uses an electronic medical record system for patient documentation. Shifts may include a weekend requirement of every other weekend and holiday coverage every other holiday. Floating to other departments may be required as needed. Scrub color is maroon, and scrubs are provided on the unit. Successful candidates will demonstrate adaptability, strong critical thinking skills, and effective communication.
