Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: ACLS BLS C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring) NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Must-Have: Intermediate level of EFM preferred advanced Description: Department is focused on obstetrics. Two Labor and Delivery rooms are available. If there is only one patient expected to go home in 24 hours, they will stay in the labor and delivery room. For longer stays, patients will be transferred to an acute care room. C-Sections are performed in the operating room. Recovery takes place in PACU. OB nurses only care for newborns and do not circulate during surgeries. Acute care beds are utilized for postpartum patients. For stays longer than 24 hours, patients will be moved to an acute care room. The facility averages 50-60 births per year. Typically, a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1 is maintained, but may occasionally be 1:2. Only one OB nurse is staffed per shift. Experience in acute med-surg care is required. Candidates must have experience with neonatal antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. RNs are required to titrate drips, including insulin and magnesium. A charge nurse is present for the entire hospital. No aides or surgical techs are assigned to assist in Labor and Delivery. Family practice obstetricians are available in-house after hours within 20 minutes. Anesthesia is available on call. Respiratory therapy equipment such as nasal cannulas and non-rebreather masks is available. RNs will monitor patients on magnesium therapy. The electronic fetal monitoring system used is Fetal Link. Scheduling typically allows for shifts to be blocked together over a four-week period. Weekend shifts are typically every other week. Holidays will be covered if needed. RNs will float to acute med-surg if there are no obstetric patients. No specific scrub color is required as long as they are clean and professional. A one-day unit-specific orientation will be provided.
