Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36-48 hours rotating every two weeks, up to every third weekend/holiday. Experience: Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience License: Required Certifications: BLS NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Must have 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience. Must have some Medical-Surgical experience in the past as float assignments will occur. Must be comfortable caring for infants/newborns with minor respiratory needs. Will accept first-time travelers. Must be comfortable mentoring or orienting new staff or other travelers. Description: Unit consists of 5 Labor and Delivery beds. There is 1 C-Section Suite located in the Operating Room. One triage bed is available. Approximately 15 births occur per month, totaling around 180 births per year. AWHONN Staffing Guidelines are followed for nurse-to-patient ratios. Common diagnoses include patients 35 weeks gestation, along with some higher-risk patients such as those with pre-eclampsia, diabetes, advanced maternal age, and twins (triplets are not accepted). RNs are required to titrate drips, including Pitocin, insulin, magnesium, IV antibiotics, and antivirals. Charge nurses may have patient assignments and oversee multiple units. Surgical techs assist in C-Sections, and nurse aides support on the floor. OB care is typically provided in-house during the day, with on-call availability of 20 minutes response time. Anesthesia is on-call with a 20-minute response time as well. Respiratory Therapy is available for deliveries if needed. Post C-Section patients recover in PACU or ICU, where OB RNs may follow patients to care for newborns. The EFM system utilized is GE Centricity. Shifts are scheduled for 4 weeks in advance, with a requirement for weekend and holiday rotations. There may be a call requirement for low census, but call shifts are unpaid if voluntarily taken. Floating to Medical-Surgical or Medical-Surgical Pediatrics assignments may be required. Any color scrubs are permitted; scrubs are provided for use in the Operating Room. Unit-specific orientation consists of one 12-hour shift of general orientation and one 12-hour shift with a preceptor. The radius rule for applicants is 100 miles. The charting system used is Cerner Corporation - PowerChart. BSN is not required for this position. The trauma level of the care setting is acute. This position falls under the Nursing division.
