Unit Details:

• Unit Type: Labor & Delivery (L&D) – LDRP
• Beds: 6 LDRP beds (same beds used postpartum), 1 dedicated C-section OR suite
• Births per Month: 12–17 (approx. 160/year)
• Staffing Ratio: Follows AWHONN guidelines – 2 RNs per shift
• Common Diagnoses/Patients: Labor, postpartum, induction, well baby/well mom, hypertensive crisis, hemorrhage; no twins/triplets; stabilize and transfer if critical
• Skills Required: Newborn stabilization, autonomous labor management (especially on nights/weekends), experience with Mag, Pitocin, Insulin titration
• C-Section Role: RN serves as newborn nurse (not circulator)
• Support: No nurse aides or surgical techs currently; charge RN usually a core St. Luke's nurse; house supervisor on site
• OB/Neonatology: OB not in-house (on-call), Pediatrician on site M–F, on-call nights/weekends
• Anesthesia: On-call with 30-minute response
• Respiratory Therapy: PRN – nasal cannula & nonrebreathers
• EFM System: Centricity
• Telemetry: Not required to read own strips
• Scheduling: 7a–7p or 7p–7a; self-scheduling with core team
• Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Equitably shared with staff
• Floating: Occasional task-based floating (e.g., safety attendant or helping hands), no unit-to-unit shift pickups
• Dress Code: May wear personal scrubs; surgical scrubs required during deliveries
